Challenges to the World Water Speed Record
American Challenges' anticipated success is based on visionary leadership, focused and effective relationship-building activities, a disciplined management of its resources and utilization of the most innovative technologies available. Members of the team were chosen from among the nations premier high-technology laboratories. They are leaders in the fields of: Fluid Dynamics, Structures, Stability and Control, Propulsion, Systems Simulation, Materials, Manufacturing, Test and Validation, Safety and Speed Record Operations.
Other than ACI, the only current challenges to the World Water Speed Record are English and Australian. They are:

Spirit of Australia (Australia): The current record holder at 317.60 MPH. Ken Warby (62) has built a new boat to try and ensure he holds onto the 25 year old record. Warby has announced an attempt will take place in the fall of 2004.

Quicksilver (British): Quicksilver has been planning an attempt since 1999. The driver is Nigel Macknight (47), a motorsport journalist. On the design team of Quicksilver is Ken Norris, who participated in the Bluebird efforts of Donald Campbell. Quicksilver hopes to make an attempt during the winter of 2005. |
